Sasha Thompson
Prior to becoming a counsellor, Sasha had a long background in education, with a strong focus on emotional wellbeing and mental health. She advised schools and authorities on ways to support the wellbeing of their pupils and families and helped to implement many initiatives and curricula that enhanced the personal development of young people.
Post-pandemic, she saw the strain children and families' emotional wellbeing was under and the new challenges young people were facing. Realising that it wasn't always possible to prioritise children's mental health within the constraints of the education system, she retrained as a therapeutic counsellor. She now works in an inner-city secondary school as a school counsellor, working with young people with all kinds of presenting issues and offering open-ended support to them as they need. She also works with adults and children in private practice. She loves using her background working with children, as it helps her find creative ways of connecting with young people. She also holds an MSc in psychology and enjoys using an underpinning of how the brain works to support her understanding of what might be happening for a person. Ultimately, whilst working integratively, she sits in a person-centred approach and follows her client's lead on where they want to go with their therapy journey.
In her spare time, Sasha loves to cook. She enjoys being creative in the kitchen and never writes anything down, so no two dishes are the same! Her undergraduate degree was in English and she loves to read when she has the time and brain energy. She also loves to travel to familiar and new places with her husband and three children.
