Before becoming an ecotherapy counsellor, Simon worked in a number of diverse areas including a call centre, a watermill, factories, hospitals, a prison, and he also worked as a public artist.

In 2021 he set up, Step by Step Counselling College with colleague and fellow tutor Becky Whittaker.  The college teaches counselling from Level 2 to Diploma and a range of CPD courses including ecotherapy courses.

The ecotherapy work with clients and supervisees coupled with the tutoring work allows him to constantly re-evaluate his working practices and explore creative counselling interventions.

When Simon is not counselling or teaching, he spends his time making furniture from coppiced hazel and enjoys a good book or film.

He also supports a community-based mentoring scheme helping people with mental and emotional health difficulties find reconnection with nature and work in the green economy.
